Information Overload

posted by ryan

In the process of entrepreneurship, new entrepreneurs are often scouting for tested and proven formula to model after. To look for a proven and tested formula, entrepreneurs often go around scouting for new knowledge and try to locate the best possible information and skills to integrate into their own business model.

In the process of scouting for the best possible information and skills which suits themselves, very often those entrepreneurs who didn’t have any mentors will lose their focus and soon be lost in the maze of ever new growing knowledge and skills set from different successful entrepreneurs otherwise known as information overload.

To prevent this problem, individuals (you) seeking a new skills set or knowledge should clearly identify which niche/market they want to target, and focus on it. Once you have identified your niche, then go and look for courses, seminars and private educational institutions which offer similar if not directly linked modules and subjects related to your area of focus.

Stay focus on the topics which you want to learn. Take a note book or write the topics on a list of paper before a course presentation/ sales presentation commence. This list of topics will help you stay on course, as the presenters have being trained to link various topics together so as to earn more commission. To prevent yourself from always learning and not applying, this piece of paper is very crucial to you.

If during any point whereby they (course/sales presenters) mention any interesting topics/modules not within the list of topics which you are looking to learn at the present moment, write it down first. In future, when you run out of ideas and are unsure of which other markets to target, refer to your previous lists for ideas.

If you’re wondering where to go for seminars, and course previews, do be on a look-out in the newspapers, various private institutions’ homepage for latest updates, once they have a new course or sales promotion, you can be among the first few to be updated so as to gain free preview. This is a tactic which I previously used for a few years (3 years to be exact) before I have finalized and decided to start on digital marketing.

Back to the topic, once you realized you have information overload, don’t feel negative, instead stay positive, because you have gained a lot of free insights which will help you go a long way. Some times, free ideas from speakers are most valuable if you can catch their ideas, concept, merge and integrate theirs into your own version.

When you’re confused, don’t worry, write down what have you learn during the whole seminar etc. Go back home and look through the list. Tick and highlight those which you’re interested, match those which you have chosen against your previously done list of your niche/market. Identify which is exactly the same, than go and find out more information before deciding on whether the course is suitable for you. I will shed more insights on the processes on why I made the decision to finalize on digital marketing around going around scouting for free course previews and seminars. Stay tune for more information.
