Today marks a fresh new start, not in my employment since I’m coming close to working for six weeks in the company.
It marks a fresh start as I start implementing the changes to the business website, gradually implementing the changes and trying to fix the problems inherited from past web designers and wrong direction of agenda behind the website of the company that I’m now working for.
Working on full time may seems like there’s more than sufficient time to carry out the work, but when you are alone and doing all the things, it seems that time is always not enough, given the scope of work is completely different than small scale websites that has only less than ten pages.
Currently dealing with website with at least over a thousand pages, having to clear out the unnecessary contents, highlighting what’s important for the business to put it in a right direction. Using optimization tactics to leverage on other keywords to grow the company’s branding, and generate awareness.
Corporate internet campaign management is challenging, as there are many difficult obstacles that cannot be removed due to business (branding) and must come up with other ways to increase the traffic without diluting the branding by not featuring it within the website nor the contents.
There’s a dateline for everything, and the part about being employed is we as marketers cannot say no, so have to say yes and push on, while it is a thing to accept, but i find it fun and interesting, valuable business experience and helps in gaining my wisdom in learning the ropes to business side in knowing what they really want.
Only now do I realize why my mentor Fabian Lim always emphasis on the word, results in the form of revenue. There is at least two to three tiers of layers to the word results.
1. Results is first priority in any business.
2. Revenue results speaks for itself, grows the business and is a additional trophy in a portfolio.
3. When money is earned, than only will be be more interested to continue learning, so as to earn more, and that’s the fun part.
But it’s much more difficult than I thought it is. It is not like a walk in the park or by the beach. It’s more like digging a tunnel in the center of a mountain with just a shovel and no bombs to blast a way through nor to soften the area meant for digging.
Below are a few list of difficulties:
1. Navigating the web browser compatibility
2. Review all website links both internally and externally and build them correctly
3. Modifying the text used in the content
4. Keywords optimization: Review, Research and Roll-out new choice of specially targeted keywords.
5. Re-directing old website and pages over to new site, having to deal with different kinds of error where redirecting is concerned.
6. Implementing advertising despite a not optimized website yet (business side of efficiency)
7. Outsourcing: Bringing suitable 3rd parties in to speed up the advertising process and finding the right party to engage their services.
8. Limited period: To test and measure the results within reasonable time given, and make changes along the way.
9. Work delegation: Working with web designer, graphic designer, webmaster and content writer to meet their demands etc, getting related individuals to do the important tasks before anything else can be continued.
10. Coming up with different strategies to increase and grow the revenue.
11. Maintaining of the website and keep it in proper working condition for the users.
12. Working on multiple task simultaneously.
While I am just starting out, most of the tasks to do are already expected, in short to long term to be implemented. Getting into the company is challenging, and a working on a large scale project is engagement and helps develop oneself as well as the whole company, it is a win-win situation for both sides.
